Several Burnet CISD coaches moving on

A number of Burnet Consolidated Independent School District coaches have resigned to pursue other opportunities.

For some, it’s a new position at another school district. For others, it’s an opportunity to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

That’s the case with Roy Kiser, who is retiring after serving the school district and the community as the boys basketball head coach for two decades. But he also added that he’s someone who “never says never.”

“I am going to explore other opportunities,” he told TexasChalkTalk.com. “I may try to coach again in the future.”

After one year as the athletic director and safety officer, Steve Hale announced he is leaving for a coaching and teaching position at Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park, about 10 miles from Weatherford. He is the new defensive coordinator for the football team and will be the powerlifting head coach and coach track and field.

“The right opportunity came up, and I just couldn’t turn it down,” he said. “I believe it’s God’s timing.”

He said he and his wife, Lana, have family in that area.

Taking over the boys basketball program is new head coach Juston Weldon, who served on Kiser’s staff for two years.

During Kiser’s time at Burnet CISD, he also served as the head coach of the golf and cross country programs.

Doug Messer resigned as the girls basketball and girls golf head coach at the school district to take become an assistant girls basketball and track and field coach at Lampasas High School.

“It’s a good move for me,” he said. “We live in Lampasas.”

He and his wife, Kristi, both took jobs at the Lampasas school district.

Kristi Jones left as the cross country head coach at the end of the 2024 fall semester. Simon Hairston was recently named her successor.

Nolan Gerfers resigned as the swimming coach.

With about two weeks left in the regular softball season, Lampasas ISD announced Ali Tippie as its new volleyball head coach. Tippie spent the last two years as the Lady Dawgs head softball coach. Though Burnet CISD posted the job April 8, a resignation didn’t come until the week of May 5. A 2012 Burnet High School graduate, Tippie played volleyball and softball at Howard Payne University and graduated in 2016.

Kim Myhre also resigned as the Burnet CISD girls soccer head coach, a position that was posted May 9. Lampasas ISD is looking for a new girls soccer head coach.

Nathan Redman resigned as the tennis head coach at the end of the 2023-24 school year to become the assistant tennis coach at Marble Falls High School.

Burnet CISD named a team tennis coaching staff — boys soccer head coach Benjamin Boorman and Myhre — that worked the sport in the fall and a spring tennis head coach, Brandon Cunningham.

Burnet Middle School is looking for a new boys coordinator and girls coach.

It’s unclear who is taking over the golf and tennis programs.
