Freeman set to become Burnet CISD’s next athletic director

The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District announced that Grant Freeman will be recommended to its Board of Trustees as the next athletic director.
The district’s superintendent’s office made the announcement June 10.
A special school board meeting will occur Monday, June 16, where Dr. Aaron Pena, the school district’s superintendent, will make the recommendation.
Freeman is currently the Wichita Falls Independent School District athletic director and was recently named the Region 2 Administrator of the Year by the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association.
He has led with a focus on building competitive programs and supporting the growth of student-athletes, according to the release.
Burnet CISD administrators view Freeman being named the Region 2 Administrator of the Year as “a reflection of his respected leadership across the state,” according to the release.
Burnet CISD leaders state that Freeman’s “energy, vision and commitment to a culture of excellence make him a strong fit for Burnet CISD and the Burnet community,” according to the release.
Freeman has expressed that he and his family are “thrilled to join the amazing staff and students at Burnet ISD” and are looking forward to “building on the great foundation and partnering to grow in the future.”
If approved, Freeman will replace Steve Hale, who resigned to become the powerlifting and track coach and the defensive coordinator of the football team at Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park. Hale was with Burnet CISD for one year.
He took over for Kurt Jones, who retired after the 2023-24 school year ended. Jones served the school district for 23 years – first as an assistant coach then as the football head coach and athletic director before becoming the full-time athletic director and safety officer.
