Marble Falls football hosts Midnight Madness

Marble Falls High School football fans will be treated to more than a practice Aug. 4 when the Mustangs host their second annual Midnight Madness. Gates open at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, and the first 200 spectators will receive a complimentary T-shirt. Food and drinks also will be given away and fans can sign up to become members of the Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club. Burnet volleyball begins season practices with tryouts

The Burnet High School volleyball program will open The Doghouse gymnasium for tryouts beginning at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, the first day the University Interscholastic League is allowing the practices to officially begin for the 2025 season. It’s the first of two practices for the official start of two-a-days. Courtesy photos On a dare, Highland Lakes resident Jeff Marcum grabbed his paddleboard and propelled himself into local history. Days before the Fourth of July floods, Marcum’s journey started at Wirtz Dam and ended at the Inks Lake spillway near Burnet. He calculates he paddleboarded around 30 miles. “I figured nobody had ever done that before,” he said. “I’m all into trying to do things first.” He began his journey at 6:20 a.m. and finished at 3:20 p.m. June 20.
