Marble Falls football hosts Midnight Madness
Marble Falls High School football fans will be treated to more than a practice Aug. 4 when the Mustangs host their second annual Midnight Madness.
Gates open at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, and the first 200 spectators will receive a complimentary T-shirt. Food and drinks also will be given away and fans can sign up to become members of the Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club.
In addition, fans can buy Mustang game day helmets from past seasons to have a token they can display, head coach Keri Timmerman said.
“It gives us a second use for those,” he said. “It reminds everyone (the buyers) are a key part of our program. It pays back into our program.”
Members of Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer will take the field first where they will go through drills that show their passing, receiving and kicking skills. They’ll also participate in sprints and other football-related events.
Then at midnight, the high school football and tennis players will come through the tunnel to officially begin preparations for the 2025 season.
Currently, the football program is projecting to have between 130-140 players.
Timmerman noted the many reasons for this event. The time of night should be cooler than the heat of the day, he said.
“There’s not a rush on day one to beat the heat,” he said.
But the other big reason is because it’s a chance to get community members and fans excited about the upcoming season.
The spring captains chose the motto of “No Doubt,” which has empowered them to give all they have during offseason and summer training, the coach said.
“Leave no doubt that they’re preparing for a great season,” Timmerman said. “Don’t let there be any question.”
The donations for Midnight Madness are are due in large part to the Granite Shoals Police Department, especially Chief John Ortis, Captain Chad Taliaferro and Officer Benjamin Bales, Timmerman said. The Kingsland HEB, 5C Seasonings, Firebull Charcoal, Truck Country Outfitters and HTeaO are among the food and beverage sponsors, while J & L Builders donated the T-shirts.
Timmerman said the athletic department is incredibly appreciative to the businesses that want to be part of the event, noting they “see how they can fit in our program.”
“We have a lot of incredible businesses and groups here, which have been nothing short of supportive,” he said. “There are opportunities to serve.”
The athletic department also will be re-selling football season tickets Aug. 5-16 to current holders. Fans who want to buy for the first time can do so Aug. 19-30.
Cost is $45 each. Handicap parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The department no longer accepts cash. Tickets can be bought online at MFMustangs.org or at the high school field house with a credit card or check.
Tickets must be picked up at the fieldhouse.
