The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team began its own Thanksgiving Classic with a 46-43 loss to Brentwood Christian Nov. 24 on the heels of blowing out Austin St. Dominic Savio 76-47 Nov. 21.

Head coach Zakk Revelle summed up the loss to Brentwood Christian.

“Great game,” he said. “We made lots of mistakes, which is somewhat to be expected on Monday when you didn’t get to practice. But no excuses. We have to play better. Our big issues right now are extra possessions, whether it’s from rebounds or turnovers. So those are the two issues we have to fix and hopefully in a hurry.”

Faith led early and then fell behind. But in the third quarter, the Flames tied the contest and then tied it again with 1 minute and 47 seconds remaining.

“They hit a lay-up and got fouled with (under 10 seconds left),” the coach said. “We actually got fouled on the inbounds (play) and got to shoot free throws.”

After missing the first free throw, the Flames deliberately missed the second to trie to launch a 3-pointer to tie the game. But it didn’t work out.

The Savio win came pretty quick thanks to a running clock in the second half. That’s because Faith raced to a 55-25 lead by halftime, which allowed coaches to substitute freely throughout the second half.

“We played a complete game – that was a really good thing,” Revelle said. “We got up and down really well. It was a complete team game. Everybody contributed, everybody played. We actually shot the ball pretty well in the first half. We shot the ball decently, which got us a good lead, and then we were able to play everybody, which is really good.”

He also was pleased with the other end of the floor.

“Defensively, we did a really good job just understanding assignments, understanding where to be,” the coach said. “They did score a healthy amount in the second half. However, a big part of that is we subbed. And so we subbed everybody out, we’re playing some freshmen, we’re playing (junior varsity) guys who we won’t normally play throughout the year. But it was still good for both teams, though, because then they were getting some good reps, and we were getting good reps for guys.”

Faith welcomes Austin St. Andrew’s Tuesday, Dec. 2, with the junior varsity playing at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow at 7:30 p.m.
