The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team will take the field for the first time in a scrimmage against Austin Eastside Memorial at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Austin ISD Stadium, commonly known as the Burger Center.

Head coach Marisa Miller, who is entering her second season, returns 14 letterman and nine starters to the team. Seven are seniors.

“I know that a couple of (District 26-4A) teams lost quite a bit of seniors,” she said. “I think we might be a little bit more even across-the-board now because I feel like we were just very young last year.”

Main contributors from last year include seniors are Suzena Perez Angel, Dulce Macias Garcia and Ava McNamara, juniors Giselle Hernandez and Katie Terrell and sophomore Jill Cole.

“Dulce had the most goals scored for us last year. She played in the middle, but she’ll probably be playing a bit more offensively for us this year,” Miller said. “And we have Suzena in the middle for us. She’s a strong player. Jill scored quite a bit of goals for us last year. I think our offense is pretty stacked this year. We have a lot of offensive players, so I’m excited to see how they connect together and step up this year.”

Cali Brydon is returning to the program and is part of a loaded wings position.

“We have a lot of wings that are going to be interchanging, so we have a lot more options offensively this year,” the coach said. “We have the same back line we had last year.”

They are Terrell, McNamara, Cole and Hernandez.

Sophomore goalie Taylor Brydon, a second team all-district selection, will lead the defense.

“We’re expecting good things from her as well,” Miller said.

She indicated the depth will be a plus for this year’s team.

“Last year we had to put players in positions that weren’t necessarily their positions offensively just because we were so new and young at the time,” she said. “And so adding some of these players this year has allowed us to put them into the positions that they normally play. I think that’s going to help a lot moving the ball up and keeping the ball up and not have to rely on our defense as much this year. And so I’m excited to see their chemistry start to come together as they’re playing in their roles this year.

The Lady Mustangs gained experience during the 2025 season where they finished 10-11-1 overall and 3-7 for fifth place in the district standings. The district features two opponents that reached the state championship. They are San Antonio Davenport, which lost to Celina 2-1, for the Class 4A Division I title and Wimberley, which lost to Amarillo Randall in penalty kicks 7-6 for the Class 4A Division II championship.

To illustrate the depth of the district, consider this.

A Fredericksburg squad that split matches with the Lady Mustangs during the district campaign refused to lose to Burnet without a fight in the first round of the Division I playoffs. The Lady Dawgs prevailed 5-4 before losing to La Vernia in the area round.

And a Canyon Lake team that swept the Lady Mustangs during district play reached the third round of the Division II playoffs.

Other district members include Bandera and New Braunfels Long Creek, a new high school that opened August 2025 and will be playing on the varsity level for the first time this season. The Lady Dragons’ head coach is former Lady Mustangs head coach Abigail Blunt.

“The preseason rankings just came out and one of the rankings ties us in the third hardest girls’ district (in the state),” Miller said. “We want to make it farther this year. So we’ve been working really hard all summer, we’ve been working in the off-season, trying to get to the point where we can compete in this difficult district.”

Marble Falls welcomes Georgetown Gateway Tuesday, Dec. 16 then travels to Copperas Cove Friday, Dec. 19, in scrimmages. The Lady Mustangs begin the season at the Lago Vista Tournament Friday-Saturday, Jan. 2-3.
