The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team lost to Blanco 35-32 Jan. 6 in non-district play.

The Lady Panthers led 10-7 after the first period and 21-10 at the intermission.

“It was a very physical game,” head coach Harvey Vaughn said. “We were taking good shots – they just weren’t going down. When we were shooting the ball, it was in and out.”

Vaughn said during a timeout, the told his players there were few adjustments to be made. He liked the way they were playing on both ends of the floor.

“You’re doing what we want,” he recalled saying. “At some point the shots need to start going in.”

Then in the third quarter, the shots finally began falling. By the end the game was tied at 25-25 going into the final stanza thanks to Faith outscoring Blanco 15-4.

With about 90 seconds left to play, the Lady Flames had the lead and the two teams began exchanging buckets. But once Blanco took the lead again and then forced a five-second violation, the Lady Flames had to foul.

To the Lady Panthers’ credit, they make their free throws to seal the win, though Faith got a 3-pointer off just before the horn sounded to end the contest.

“The refs weren’t calling anything really,” Vaughn said. “We played hard. They were trying to win.”

Faith travels to play at Austin San Juan Diego at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13.
