The Burnet High School girls soccer team crushed Austin Northeast 8-0 March 3 in District 25-4A play.
Avery Barth scored four goals, Bella Medina added three and Cheyenne Adams finished with one.
The Lady Dawgs took a 4-0 lead by halftime.
“Consistency is a good word,” head coach Doug Ketcham said. “We’re starting to get healthy, so that’s going to help a whole lot. Although I still didn’t have everyone, so I think we’re going to get better and hopefully that’ll make us even more consistent.”
Two traits paved the way to victory, he said.
“We were physically better and faster,” the coach said. “(Northeast) was missing some people as well. So I think that kind of had an effect, because the last time we only beat them 4-0 when he had everyone. I was expecting a closer game like last time, but they were missing too many girls. That obviously had a big impact on their play.”
The Lady Dawgs have two more matches before they begin the Class 4A Division I playoffs. Burnet will play at Austin LBJ Tuesday, March 10, with the junior varsity playing at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7 p.m.
Then Burnet will wrap-up the regular season at home against Austin Travis with the junior varsity playing at 6 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. The seniors will be honored between matches.
The University Interscholastic League has designated March 19-21 as the dates for bi-district matches to be played. Ketcham said District 26-4A still must complete this final week of the regular season to determine which teams advance as the third and fourth seeds. Once that’s figured out, Burnet will have a postseason opponent.
