The Burnet High School girls soccer team ended the regular season with a 7-0 thrashing of Austin Travis March 13.

The shutout win was the seventh for the Lady Dawgs (19-5, 13-1) in District 25-4A play for a runner-up finish.

“It feels like it went on forever from when we started to when we finished,” Ketcham said. “It felt like that was ages ago, like it was just the different season. Losing that district match (to Liberty Hill Legacy Ranch 6-0 Jan. 22) I think gave us momentum. That kind of laid the groundwork for the rest of the season.”

Next up is a bi-district championship in the Class 4A Division I playoffs against New Braunfels Long Creek (10-7-2, 6-6), which finished fourth in District 26-4A. The match is at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Hutto Memorial Stadium.

Against Travis, senior Brook Oliva scored six goals, while Avery Barth scored the other goal.

“Brook changes a lot of stuff that we do,” head coach Doug Ketcham said. “So it’s a big impact.”

Burnet led 3-0 at the half.

The program celebrated its seniors before the match.

“It’s usually pretty emotional,” Ketcham said. “And so it that’s usually a little more difficult, starting out those games. So we were a little slow, but then we picked it up and we were able to do what we needed to do. We had pretty good support that night, and I thought the girls did a great job with the senior stuff.”

As for Long Creek, Ketcham believes this match will be a good one to begin the playoffs.

“They have several good players,” he said. “There’s other things that I think we can exploit, so I think it’s just whoever can get their game plan in and be consistent with it will probably be the one that wins.
