Cheerleaders wanted to MFYFC games

When teams of Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer enter the playing field to begin a game, one group is charged with getting the crowd as excited as the Mustangs themselves.

That group is the cheerleaders.

Cost to join is $195 and registration ends Friday, June 13. Uniform fittings are from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, June 14. Right after that, uniforms for the 2025 season will be ordered.

Sponsorships and scholarships are available. Those interested in either one can learn more by going on the web site for applications or email Ma************@***il.com.

“Anyone can sponsor a player or a kid or just pay the amount to sponsor any player or cheerleader,” said cheer director Crystal Tubig.

Tubig noted the organization “typically has more freshman (cheerleaders) – Kindergarten through second grade who sign up.”

“We have more of the little ones signing up,” she said. “But once you get older, these girls find out if it’s something they want to do. By the fifth and sixth grade, the numbers start to go down.”

Tubig noted the organization had a fifth-grade football team and a sixth-grade football team. Ideally, each team would have had its own cheer squad. But there weren’t enough cheerleaders to do that and all the other parts of the routines they do.

“We kept the girls together to make sure we had enough to do routines,” Tubig said.

In addition to the chants and cheers during the games, the cheerleaders also have a halftime performance, mirroring their counterparts at Marble Falls middle school and high school.

But unlike football teams that have substitutes and rotations to keep players fresh or give them a breather, the cheerleaders don’t have that option.

Tubig said she was selected to direct the cheerleaders two years ago and didn’t have a background in the sport.

“My daughter found her niche, and my daughter does multiple sports,” she said. “To cheer in front of all those parents – it takes a different breed. It’s definitely a sport.”
