The Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club will continue several August commitments the club is known for.
First up is having a table at the entrance of Mustang Stadium for the second annual Midnight Madness football practice Monday, Aug. 4, at Mustang Stadium. The practice is the first of the 2025 season and kicks off two-a-day training camp.
Midnight Madness showcases the Marble Falls High School football program. And just like football games, this practice is more of an event.
Fans are invited to attend and watch the Mustangs go through sport-specific drills at various stations all over the field. Gates open at 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, and “swag” will be given to the first 200 attendees. Food and drinks will be provided.
Last year the Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer members also were in attendance. The players participated in several drills that allowed them to showcase their running, passing and punting abilities.
The club also will be hosting the annual Meet the Mustangs at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Marble Falls High School. Each athlete in fall sports will be introduced to fans and what resembles a giant pep rally. HEB is donating items to feed attendees.
Families and fans can show their Mustang pride by signing up to be members of the booster club at either event.
At both events, individuals will meet the new officers of the club including new President Jenni Mattox and new Vice President Sarah Wood. Other administrative positions include Secretary Katherine Terrell, Treasurer Rosie Salinas, Membership Coordinator Michele Boshears, and Scholarship Coordinator Jennifer Edwards.
Terrell was the vice president last year. The duties of that office was memberships.
“That was a huge taking for the vice president in addition to the other job duties that come along with being the VP,” Boshears said. “Since I’ve taken on this role, she has mentored me and I want to make sure that I say that.”
Boshears encourages individuals and fans to sign up for many reasons. One is because of the club’s purpose to the athletic department – “to increase school spirit, provide financial support for … athletic programs in accordance with University Interscholastic League guidelines, increase parental and community involvement … and foster communication between parents, coaches and administrators.”
Another is because the club buys items that help athletes prepare for their season and opponents thanks to the club raising funds for its general fund or for a coach’s wish list that was submitted to athletic director Keri Timmerman. School district budgets shrink, but the needs of the athletic department and each individual sport does not. The booster club provides a valuable assist in buying equipment, gear and other needs most take for granted.
Sometimes the items could be warm-up suits or practice clothing. Others are machines that help baseball and softball players become better hitters or catch a basketball and spits the ball back to the shooter to allow that player to fall into a rhythm.
Boshears said the club purchased a sound system for one of the facilities because it touched every athlete in the department.
“We are providing items that stay with the program,” she said. “It has to be for the benefit of the entire organization.”
Many times, the organization opens concession stands at various home games throughout the school year, helps with home tournaments during pre-district campaigns, and other tasks that allow coaches and athletes to fully concentrate on their seasons.
The club also awards scholarships to graduating seniors who are athletes. But their families must be club members to make that athlete eligible to receive one.
