Burnet football hosts Mom’s Clinic
The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District football program is hosting its annual Mom’s Clinic at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the field house at Bulldog Field.
The clinic is for women who want to learn more about the sport of football and for mothers and grandmothers who want to better understand what their football players go through during the season.
Head coach Ben Speer and his coaches teach the clinic where they offer a quick feel for how the Bulldogs prepare for games. They show film, allow guests to ask questions, and even conduct games where attendees put on a full uniform, line up in different positions and throw and catch footballs.
Usually the Bulldogs help their moms and grandmas during the clinic.
And above all else, coaches make sure they tell the mothers and grandmothers how important they are to the success of their son or grandson’s season, even if the young man doesn’t say it himself. That in turn helps the Bulldogs and the program flourish because these women exit the field house knowing they play an integral part not only in their homes but also in the cherished community program.
There is no admission. Perhaps the only requirement is the ability to laugh at one self.
And Speer encourages asking questions. He and his staff truly want to help attendees learn more about the sport that means so much to the men in their families.
He sees the clinic as a way to thank the women for trusting him and his staff with their sons and grandsons and wants them to know the coaches appreciate all their sons and grandsons do for the program.
In the past the clinic has drawn women whose players compete in youth, middle school and high school football. They are of all ages and backgrounds and are unified by their loyalty to Kelly green and white.
