The first Battle of the Hills featuring area youth football teams is Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Burnet Middle School Stadium. Gates open at 7:30 a.m.

Battle of the Hills, which is sponsored by Burnet Youth Football and Cheer, allows teams from Blanco, Boerne, Burnet, Fredericksburg, Lago Vista, Lampasas and Marble Falls to scrimmage one another before the season kicks off in a couple of weeks. There is no admission or entry fees. Concessions will benefit the BYFC.

“We decided to try to invite people,” said Burnet Middle School boys athletic coordinator Mark Zeigler, who still works closely with the youth organization.

The 100-yard field will be divided in half, allowing two scrimmages to happen at once.

The Burnet freshmen play Lago Vista at 9:35 a.m. and Marble Falls at 10:45 a.m.

The Burnet junior varsity faces Lago Vista at 11:20 a.m. and Marble Falls at 12:30 p.m.

The Burnet fifth-graders play Boerne at 1:05 p.m. and Marble Falls at 1:40 p.m.

The Burnet sixth-graders play Lago Vista at 8:30 a.m. and Boerne at 10:10 a.m.

The Marble Falls freshmen also play Fredericksburg at 11:55 a.m.

The Marble Falls junior varsity also faces Lago Vista at 1:05 p.m.

The Marble Falls fifth graders also scrimmage Lampasas at 2:15 p.m.

The Marble Falls sixth-graders face Lampasas at 9:05 a.m. and Boerne at 10:10 a.m.

In addition to giving the teams some invaluable field time against other opponents, organizers also will conduct player weigh-ins, which are required by Hill Country Youth Football, of which each of these youth organizations are members.

The event ends at 3 p.m. Because this is a fundraiser, organizers are asking that no outside food or drinks be brought to the stadium.

“We’re going to try to start doing it every year,” Zeigler said. “Hopefully it’s a good deal. We’re excited about it. I think once it’s done, it’ll be worth it. Come out and support our youth football community.”
