After another season that ended in the playoffs, several members of the Marble Falls High School girls basketball team were named to the All-District 24-4A teams and one was honored with a superlative award.
She is senior post Leslie Reynoso, who is the Defensive Most Valuable Player.
“Clearly watching her play, she was our defensive leader,” head coach Adley Canales said. “Nobody wanted to go against her. With her on the floor, she helped all four girls evolve. That says a lot.”
Forwards Emma Martin, a freshman, and Addy Wood and guard Ally Moran, who are both sophomores, were named to the first team.
“It’s obvious that in different games throughout district that each had big nights,” Canales said. “It was hard to keen on just one because the other two were always there to pick up the slack. And that’s what everybody recognized in our district, which is why they’re voted on to get first team all- district.”
Sophomore guard Mikaela Valdez is a second-team member and senior guard Rayleigh Crim is honorable mention.
“We didn’t just have one – we had multiple,” the coach said. “Mikaela was our leader. She didn’t always shoot as much as the other girls and get those stats, but our district recognized that without her, it’s hard to get the other girls going. Her numbers don’t reflect everything she does for us, which was rewarded by her getting the second team.”
Equally important to the team was Crim, he said.
“Rayleigh coming off the bench was huge for us,” Canales said. “Some games we needed her more than others. Her stats may have not reflected everything she did for us because we may have asked her to handle defensive assignments versus offensive assignments. Sometimes it may have been more offense than defense. But all the coaches in district recognized what she meant to us and what she meant when comparing it across district.”
Academic all-district honors went to Siyah Macintosh, Addie Martin, Alexis Sprott, Kenley Virdell, Crim, Emma Martin, Moran, Reynoso, Valdez and Wood.
Canales indicated coaches from the other schools were familiar with what each of these Lady Mustangs brought.
“We got six, so that’s a good number for us,” he said. “For our starters, everybody got something. And our first person off the bench was Rayleigh, and she was recognized, so that says a lot. We’re pleased to get six.”
Crim and Reynoso also were selected second team academic all-state by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
