Coach Terry sees plenty to like about the Burnet receivers

When the Burnet High School receivers line up for offensive possessions, their coach wants to see several traits on display.
One of the biggest is toughness – in running routes, in catching the ball, in finishing plays and especially in blocking.
Toughness typically leads to another trait coach Aaron Terry wants.
“I think it’s a 100 percent mentality when it comes to what I like to do,” he said.
Part of his coaching might be leading by example. He may get on the line and run sprints with his players, illustrating he is not asking them to do something he is unwilling to do himself.
“My mentality is always have the mindset that you’re going to get one more rep regardless of the scenario,” he said. “You’re going to attack the next rep, no matter what, no matter how tired you are. ‘I’m going to sprint up to the line, get set, get ready to go,’ and I’m sure my kids hated me.”
He recalled his Cedar Park Vista Ridge players participating in a sprint drill in summer 2025 that helped them with their velocity and body control. And Terry was unafraid to run the drill with them. After they finished one, they’d run another and another.
“Just to see that no matter what, I’m going to go attack this next rep and have this dog mentality that you’re not going to beat me out on this rep,” he said. “I’m going to show up, and I’m going to whoop your butt.”
Terry indicated he liked a lot about the Burnet receivers room. He was at several 7-on-7 games during May and June. He also was sitting at the back of the end zone when Burnet hosted its own state qualifying tournament in May.
“I’m excited,” he said. “We have a good strong group of seniors coming up who are going to lead the way at the receiver group. They’re a smart group of guys, they have a swagger about them that you’re going to need with the level of confidence going into Friday nights and game nights, and so I’m excited to get to work with these guys. I want to take advantage of the season with them, getting to know them to build that relationship with them so we can go have some fun this year.”
