May volleyball league draws athletes back to the hardwood

Wanting to give local volleyball athletes opportunities to play and improve but not wanting to travel far, Marble Falls High School head coach Kait Goertz decided to host weekly matches here. So she decided to reach out to the head coaches at surrounding schools, who accepted the invitation. Each Monday starting at 5 p.m. at Marble Falls Middle School, 1511 Pony Circle Drive, fans can watch their favorite players and teams in one location. Bennett makes another statement at regionals to return to state

Burnet High School junior middle-distance runner Hudson Bennett is going back to his home away from home — the Class 4A state meet — in the 1,600 and the 3,200 meters after taking double gold in both events at the Class 4A Region III meet April 29-30. The Next Level Elite girls basketball team, consisting of high school athletes in the Highland Lakes, won the LoneStar Championship tournament April 22-24 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, in Arlington. Next Level Elite defeated Proskills Houston 16U 54-41 April 24, the Arkansas Lady Rebels 37-9 and Oklahoma Aces 49-42 both on April 23, and Oklahoma Swarm 16U 44-42 April 22. Burnet athletes set new personal records en route to regionals

The Burnet High School track and field team qualified numerous athletes in various events to the Class 4A Region III meet and some set new personal bests to get there. The Bulldogs and Lady Dawgs each finished fourth in the team standings of the District 19 and 20-4A area track meet April 21. Errors lead to very different outcomes for the Lady Dawgs

Bad weather April 12 forced the Burnet High School softball team to play in back-to-back contests April 13-14 where the Lady Dawgs got different results. Burnet (19-8, 5-4 District 19-4A) defeated Taylor (6-3) 6-4 one night after losing to Salado (3-5) 9-4. “It was huge,” head coach Hailey Wooten said of the win. “They could see our playoff hopes dwindling, and they knew that’s not how it’s supposed to be, not with all the potential we have. The Burnet High School boys and girls track and field teams were third at the District 19-4A meet April 6-7. The Bulldogs earned 96 points, while the Lady Dawgs had 106 points. The Burnet High School softball team lost to Georgetown Gateway 6-3 on April 8. Lady Gators (2-5( freshman pitcher Chloe Ellis struck out 10 in seven complete innings against the Lady Dawgs (18-7, 4-3 District 19-4A) . “They have a great pitcher,” Lady Dawgs head coach Hailey Wooten said. “We didn’t see her the first time we played them until the end of the game.
