Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro A 0-3 loss to powerhouse Fredericksburg Sept. 6 won’t dishearten the Marble Falls High School volleyball team, according to head coach Kait Goertz. That’s because she saw some positives in the 20-25 second set loss she believes will help her squad. “We followed the game plan,” she said. “We made a couple of adjustments to our defensive structure to try to negatively affect the Fredericksburg…

2022 Season Preview: Marble Falls Tennis

Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro The drop to Class 4A is being viewed as a move up by Marble Falls High School tennis head coach Sam Whitley. Gone are the days of District 25-5A where members would bring more than 30 athletes who specialized in that one sport. Now, the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs are facing opponents much like themselves. Because of the enrollment at each school, every program must share students in order to have enough to compete in the minimum 18 matches in team tennis. And that includes…

2022 Preview: Marble Falls Cross Country

The Marble Falls High School cross country team is experiencing a transition in many ways. Lozoya named the Marble Falls Lady Mustangs softball coach

The Marble Falls High School softball program has a new coach, Alejandro “Alex” Lozoya, who accepted the job days after it was posted in June. “I was looking,” he said. “What sold me was the area and community. My brother is a firefighter in Spicewood, my mom lives in San Antonio, and I have in-laws in Austin. It feels like a great community to raise my boys.” Lozoya was the head coach at Midlothian High School for 10 years. He was at another job interview when Dr. Chris Allen, the…

Marble Falls Lady Stangs win in straight sets for first time since 2018

Marble Falls High School head volleyball coach Kait Goertz has maintained her Lady Mustangs are much improved this season than at any other time she has been at the helm. She has upheld the most important element to the team’s success is players believing their coach when she tells them they have what it takes to turn the program. And they showed it all in a three-set victory against Austin Northeast Aug. 16, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14. “This group is something special – that’s one of the things I told them,”…

Marble Falls volleyball has arsenal of new ways to score

For weeks, Marble Falls High School head volleyball coach Kait Goertz has been saying this 2022 team is different from the ones that stepped out on the court in the past. A big reason is because of the preparation the Lady Mustangs put in months earlier leading up to the season opener against Kyle Lehman Aug. 9 that has led to a confidence the players now have. And though Marble Falls (0-1) lost to the Lady Lobos 19-25, 22-25, 10-25, Goertz said she saw plenty of positives that reinforced what…
