The starting quarterback battle at Llano High School has revealed plenty of strengths between the two athletes who have taken snaps for the Yellow Jackets 7-on-7 team. Being a member of another prestigious crew is paying off for the Marble Falls High School football program. Known as the 1,000-pound club, players become members if their weight totals in the incline bench, bench press, squat and power clean add up to 1,000 pounds. Though basketball season doesn’t tip off until November, area players aren’t waiting for the beginning of the 2022-23 school year to hit the hardwood thanks to the start of the Lampasas summer basketball league, which begins Monday, June 6. The 2022 Burnet High School football coaching staff will have some new faces after familiar coaches left to climb the coaching ladder. Two new hires at Burnet are Colton Brewer, who will be the quarterbacks coach, and Trevor Couch, who will be the receivers coach. Llano High School has a new girls athletics coordinator and head cross country and girls basketball coach, announced Llano Independent School District athletics director Matt Green. It’s Jay Parker. Parker served as the Shallowater High School head boys cross country and girls assistant basketball coach for the last four years including during the 2019-20 season when the Lady Fillies won the basketball Class 3A state championship. District 19-4A coaches selected several Burnet High School softball players to all-district teams, Lady Dawgs head coach Hailey Wooten announced. First team all-district Lady Dawgs are Savannah Gomez, McKenzie Davis and Lanee McCurry. The Llano High School 7-on-7 team posted a 2-1 record at the Burnet state qualifying tournament May 28. The Yellow Jackets defeated Brownwood 12-6 and Somerset 15-13 before losing to Lorena 19-6.
