The Lady Dawgs (15-6-3, 11-3 District 18-4A) beat Lampasas 3-0 and put themselves in position to finish second in the district standings if they can beat Salado in the regular season finale on Monday, March 14. The Marble Falls High School baseball team is displaying plenty of characteristics coaches want to see from athletes: spunk, belief, a never-die attitude, and a willingness to compete until the final out. Marble Falls High School offensive coordinator Heath Hohmann is the new athletics director and head football coach at Skidmore-Tynan High School in Skidmore, Texas. Hohmann’s appointment was announced March 7, weeks after he interviewed for the job Feb. 22. On the October weekend Burnet senior swimmer Ryan Behrens visited McMurry University and was offered a scholarship, he committed. The Burnet High School softball program completed a successful weekend on the diamond in their own tournament March 5. The varsity (14-3) defeated Johnson City 3-2 after losing to The Woodlands College Park 2-1 on Saturday. On Friday, the Lady Dawgs beat Gunter 12-2. Burnet High School sophomore Abby Smith qualified for the Class 4A Division I powerlifting state meet after finishing third overall in the 114-pound division at regionals on March 4. Smith lifted a total of 635 pounds thanks to squatting 254 pounds, bench-pressing 145 pounds, and dead-lifting 250 pounds. She set new personal bests in the deadlift, the bench press and in the overall total. The state is divided into eight regions. The top two lifters in each region automatically qualify. The Burnet High School girls basketball team’s season ended with a 64-39 loss to Sour Lake Hardin Jefferson in the Class 4A Region III final Feb. 26 after the Lady Dawgs defeated Huffman Hargrave 45-40 in a regional semifinal on Feb. 25 in Lufkin.
