Two Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer teams won Sept. 24 and the one that didn’t lost by a point.

That’s how dominant the Mustangs continue to be.

The junior varsity (third- and fourth-graders) earned a 35-0 win against Smithson Valley White, while the varsity (fifth- and sixth-graders) beat Smithson Valley Pieper Purple 62-0. Those Marble Falls teams moved to 4-0. The Marble Falls freshmen (first- and second-graders) lost to Burnet.

Linebacker and offensive lineman Brian Perez, a third-grader, said the linebackers play well together, and that led to the win.

“When I saw a man running for a pass, I would run with them so they wouldn’t score,” he said. “I’m good at football, I’ve played for the Mustangs for two years. I’m one of the leaders of the team.”

Perez added that he enjoys playing linebacker because “you can tackle and have fun playing.”

Another linebacker, third-grader Levi Brydon who also is a running back, said he enjoys playing defense more.

“You can blitz, and that’s really fun,” he said. “We’re fast. All of us are fast.”

Lineman Santos Rodriquez, who is a third-grader, also plays on the offensive and defensive lines.

“I like the defensive line cause you can run through the offense and get sacks and recover fumbles,” he said. “I get to block. I love my quarterback, running back and wide receivers. We have to make sure the quarterback has enough time to throw it.”

Running back and safety Joseph Williams, who’s in the fourth grade, sees the importance of his defensive position.

“If your team doesn’t tackle them, you can get that person,” he said.

All three teams are traveling to Canyon Lake Saturday, Oct. 1. The freshmen play at 10 a.m., the junior varsity competes at noon, and the varsity takes the field at 4:30 p.m.
