The Burnet High School volleyball team’s season is done after a loss to Salado 25-21, 17-25, 22-25, 19-25 in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals Nov. 8.

The Lady Eagles (32-15, 9-1 District 23-4A championships) played Burnet four times this season and went 3-1.

The Lady Dawgs finish the season with a 28-12 overall record and a 10-0 District 24-4A record to repeat as district champions.

Head coach Crystal Shipley noted these Lady Dawgs showed the resilience associated with Burnet athletics.

“We can not express how proud we are of this group,” she said. “They have come so far since Aug. 1. There was a lot of talk at the beginning about rebuilding and ‘filling big shoes’ because so many great seniors (graduated) last season. This young team took that challenge on and became record-setters of their own.”

This 2022 squad is the first Burnet team to earn an undefeated district championship in program history while winning 15 consecutive matches.

It also had several Lady Dawgs put their names in the program record books for their performances.

Junior MaeSyn Gay recorded 356 kills this season to write her name at the top of this statistic.

Senior Addie Grace Hernandez is the digs leader for the most in a season thanks to earning 507.

Junior Zaria Solis set two records for blocks: 85 for a season and 158 for her career.

“I would say there is a lot to celebrate this season,” Shipley said.

She noted the end of the season is always bittersweet as the program wishes the seniors well now that they’ve wrapped up their commitment to it. They are manager Sadie Campbell, Hernandez, McKenzie Davis, Lainey Rye, Harlynn Roberts and Samantha Gaylord.

“You all will be missed more than words can describe,” the coach said. “Thank you for choosing Lady Dawg volleyball and for leading this team with lots of love, hard work, and fun.”

Since Lago Vista is playing Spring Hill in the Class 4A Region III semifinals Nov. 11, Shipley can’t release the all-district lists until all district members’ seasons have ended.
