Griffin teaches life lessons he’s learned through his track club

Most Texans may know Cedric Griffin as a cornerback for the 2005 national champion Texas Longhorns that defeated the University of Southern California in the Rose Bowl. Griffin was part of the 2001 recruiting class ranked No. 1 in the country. What people may not know is that Griffin, who is an assistant track coach for Faith Academy of Marble Falls this spring, credits much of his play-making ability on the football field to the time he spent on the track long before he signed his National Letter of Intent…

I knew they’d all get TAPPS all-state. All the other accolades play a part.” Junior…

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls baseball team battled some early adversity against Bryan Allen Academy for a 15-0 win April 14. Errors lead to very different outcomes for the Lady Dawgs

Bad weather April 12 forced the Burnet High School softball team to play in back-to-back contests April 13-14 where the Lady Dawgs got different results. Burnet (19-8, 5-4 District 19-4A) defeated Taylor (6-3) 6-4 one night after losing to Salado (3-5) 9-4. “It was huge,” head coach Hailey Wooten said of the win. “They could see our playoff hopes dwindling, and they knew that’s not how it’s supposed to be, not with all the potential we have. It was needed for sure.” The Lady Dawgs were able to send the…

Bulldogs show who they really are in defeating the Eagles

The Burnet High School baseball team illustrated almost every emotion known in sports in a 24-hour period. One night after losing to Salado 20-3 in a contest that ended after 5 1/2 innings April 13, the Bulldogs arrived at Bulldog Diamonds for the conclusion of a three-game series with the Eagles April 14. Because Burnet had beaten the Eagles 7-6 March 18, both teams knew the winner would take the crucial head-to-head matchup that sometimes determines playoff berths or seeds for the postseason. But this time, the Bulldogs (9-10-1, 6-5…

Mustangs dominate in all three phases for win over Leander

A complete game. That’s what Marble Falls High School baseball coach Tyler Porter kept telling his players was the key to victory. He wanted to see the Mustangs (6-12, 2-8 District 25-5A) get consistent pitching and the defense make every routine play with the batters making solid contact and hitting in the gaps. Against Leander April 14, Porter got what he wanted in a 6-1 victory in a contest his team led from start to finish. “All three phases looked good,” he said. “There weren’t many walks, we had good…
