The Burnet High School girls soccer team continues its winning ways in District 25-4A play.

The latest Lady Dawgs’ (16-2 overall, 5-0 District 25-4A) victory was against Georgetown Gateway 5-0 Feb. 10 after beating Lago Vista 6-1 Feb. 7 and Jarrell 7-0 Feb. 4.

Against Gateway, freshman Brook Oliva led with three goals. Amelia Griffin and Kaycie Banton each also scored a goal. Griffin also had two assists while the other were from Laney Huffman, Julie Suazo and Caroline Valencia.

Head coach Kimberly Myhre commended the Lady Dawgs’ defense for the victory.

“Our defense and our goal keeper kept a clean sweep,” she said.

Valencia led the way against Lago Vista with three goals and two assists, while Griffin had two goals and an assist. Lainey Rye scored the final goal thanks to an assist from Taylor Petty.

Reagan Shipley, Emily Wagner, Mekayla Johnson and Haylie Bartlett led the Burnet defense.

“Our goal keeper Juliet Morales also had a great game,” Myhre said, adding the Lady Vikings’ lone score was on a penalty kick in the box.

The Lady Dawgs’ trip to Jarrell Feb. 4 was a make-up district game that was originally supposed to be played Jan. 31 but was moved because of the icy weather.

Myhre noted her players were eager to return to the field.

“The Lady Dawgs came out hard,” she said.

Griffin led by scoring three goals, her fifth hat trick of the season. She also had an assist. Banton had a goal and two assists. Rye added a goal and an assist, and Oliva and Bartlett each contributed a goal.

Petty led the Lady Dawgs in assists with three.

Myhre remained pleased with the other side of the field, too.

“Our defense killed it in the back as well as our goalie Kylie Brobst to help keep a clean sheet,” she said.

Burnet welcomes Marble Falls Tuesday, Feb. 14, to Bulldog Field with the subvarsities playing at 5 p.m. and the varsities following. Both teams are undefeated in district play.
