Marble Falls High School 2023 graduate Cale Cochran did his part to honor the purple and white pinstriped Mustang uniform he wore for the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Star Game June 17 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Cochran’s team was trailing 2-1 in the fifth inning when he stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a 2-RBI single that scored the go-ahead runs that led to the 8-2 victory.
“He put them up for good,” said Marble Falls High School head coach Tyler Porter, who guided the Mustangs to the 2023 District 24-4A championship. “It was a 2-RBI line drive to right-center field.”
Cochran was one of four left fielders on the roster. Also attending the game were Bart Bickerton and Brad Harmon, two Marble Falls High School graduates from the early 1990s. Harmon is the head coach at Abilene High, while Bickerton retired as the head coach at Sharyland High School. Both believe Cochran is the first Mustang to play in this all-star game.
“They’ve both been involved in this game for a long,” Porter said. “Both have been involved at the state level.”
Cochran showed why he was selected, his high school coach said, adding he represented the program and the community very well.
“Cale was a great representative,” he said. “He could stand up there and soak it all in and sign baseballs. Our senior class meant so much to this program. Cale represented all of that. They all worked so hard for four years. All of our kids worked so hard to get our team recognized. We had six seniors who were dudes for this program.”
