The Marble Falls High School team tennis squad lost to Lago Vista 9-10 Oct. 3 in the District 19-4A tournament.

That means the Mustangs will enter the Class 4A playoffs as the second seed out of the district. Marble Falls was the runner-up in the district regular season and the district tournament.

“We’re good,” head coach Samuel Whitley said. “We went out and did the best we could. Unfortunately, we fell a match short. We have new life, new breath. We’re going into the state playoffs.”

Lago Vista featured several male seniors.

“We have three seniors on our team, so we have an uphill battle,” the coach said. “Their boys are too strong for us. I don’t think there’s anything we can do any better than where we are right now. They beat us. We didn’t do anything that caused us to lose. They are just better.”

The match-up came down to Marble Falls’ last freshman on the court, and it took every match being played to decide overall team tennis winner.

Marble Falls will face Taylor at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Georgetown High School.

“Taylor is a team that’s very similar to us,” Whitley said. “I think it’s going to be a good match. It’s going to be competitive. We’re going to get right back to the grind of the season. I thought our kids were focused all season long.”
