Burnet volleyball ends 1st round with win against Jarrell
The Burnet High School volleyball team defeated Jarrell 25-10, 25-14, 25-19 Oct. 6 in the last match of the first round of District 24-4A play.
The Lady Dawgs (21-11, 4-1) bounced back after a 26-24, 21-25, 20-25, 13-25 loss to Georgetown Gateway Oct. 3 in a match for first place in the standings.
Head coach Crystal Shipley noted the Lady Dawgs were eager to return to the court after their first district setback.
“All three teams came out on a mission and got the job done quickly, not losing a set,” she said.
After the win against Jarrell, the program honored three Lady Dawgs for their contributions throughout their time as lettermen. Senior Zaria Solis recorded her 600th kill, while MaeSyn Gay has more than 900 kills, and setter Camryn Courtney has surpassed 1,000 assists.
“We are so proud of these girls,” the coach said. “They continue to set the bar high and have amazing teammates who have helped contribute to these accomplishments.”
The district races are as close as ever, the coach noted, pointing out that the Burnet junior varsity also is in second place behind Marble Falls and the Burnet freshmen are the district leaders.
“We know all of our girls will be ready to work and go after our best in the second half of district,” she said.
Burnet is at Lago Vista Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the subvarsities playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity following. Then the Lady Dawgs welcome Lampasas in their annual Pink Out Night Friday, Oct. 13, with the varsity taking the court at 5 p.m. and the subvarsities following.
