The Marble Falls High School softball team lost to Jarrell 3-0 April 14 in the final game of the season.

The Lady Cougars plated a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and forced the Lady Mustangs to strand two runners in the fifth inning after Khloe Hollingsworth reached on an error and Emma Martin drew a walk with no outs. But Jarrell stiffened by getting a groundout, a strikeout and a flyball to center field to end the threat. Junior Jocelyn Suarez stretched a leadoff double to a triple in the sixth inning but was thrown out at home.

The Lady Cougars scored two earned runs off 11 hits and 4 walks.

The Lady Mustangs faced Jarrell freshman pitcher Emmy Dreyer for the first time.

“She did a good job, consistent in staying away, staying away,” Marble Falls head coach Alex Lozoya said. “We … finally started putting good contact on barrel. But we had some opportunities on some mistakes they made late to get runners on that I was hopeful we could capitalize, and then we just didn’t do enough to scratch one. I’d like to think that if we scratch one, momentum would have been there and two and three (runs) would have been there in a hurry. But one of the hardest parts is just trying to get that first one. And we did not.”

He noted some Lady Mustangs had deep shots to out the outfield but weren’t deep enough into the gap or hard enough to go over the fence.

“We didn’t have enough offensively,” the coach said.

The program said good-bye to third baseman Cheyenne Thompson and manager Harlie Penny, who are both seniors. Each one contributed to ensuring the program continues to grow, Lozoya said.

“Cheyenne earned the right to be a senior on this team, she earned the right to be a senior in this program,” he said. “As much of a difficult freshman season that she had, she matured and did a lot of growing up to earn new opportunities to be a senior on this team. She earned my trust to have her lead the freshmen, the sophomores and that is appreciated for her and her parents.”

Penny was a player who stopped playing because of medical reasons.

“She couldn’t physically finish playing, but she was here for every practice when she didn’t have to be as a manager,” the coach said. “She was here for every weight session on Saturday mornings when she didn’t have to be as a manager. She did a great job of helping us coaches and the team on things that we needed to make sure that we had things going as straight as we could with the program. And was a big, big part of our team even though she wasn’t an active player. So I wish them the best in the future. I know they’re going to be those kids who are going to succeed in whatever they do and they’ll always have a home here at Marble Falls High School with us.”

The Lady Mustangs relied on several new faces who had to learn quickly.

“Lots of growth, opportunities for the babies in the group during the 2026 season,” Lozoya said.”We played every single freshman significant innings and significant advances and significant moments. I would say lots of opportunities competitively. I told the kids that on paper as a team they went 7-26. This is not what I envisioned for this group as the season started, especially with the way we played the scrimmage portion in the first part of the season. But I told the kids, ‘You were in 16 or 17 of those games.’ And hopefully it’s something we can build on.”

He added that it’s unfortunate Thompson is graduating but pitchers Brooklynn Damico and Callie Phillips will be juniors, about three starters will be seniors “and all the other (rising sophomores).”

“Hopefully, now we see what it takes to be not just competitive but to produce in this district and start making choices that are going to go towards working and elevating and build on this season,” the coach said.
