Marble Falls High School finished 28th in the Class 4A standings of the Lone Star Cup for its accomplishments in University Interscholastic League events during the 2025-26 school year.

That includes fine arts, academic UIL and sports.

Marble Falls, which scored 49 points, received points for its finishes in team tennis, volleyball, girls basketball, baseball, boys soccer and one-act play. Three of the events — volleyball, boys soccer and one-act play — made school history with their finishes. The Lady Mustangs won two playoff matches, while the soccer team advanced to the Class 4A Division I tournament for the first time, and one-act play won the state title.

The UIL has 218 schools in Class 4A. Comal Davenport won the cup with 103 points followed by Canyon, Salado, Wimberley and Celina. Davenport and Wimberley are in the same soccer district as Marble Falls and Salado was in the same non-football and non-soccer district with Marble Falls.

Stephenville, which is in the same football district as the Mustangs, was 23rd in the standings with 55 points, while Waco La Vega, which won the boys soccer state title after eliminating the Mustangs in the state semifinals, finished tied for 24th with 52 points, and Fredericksburg, which also was in the same soccer district as Marble Falls, was 27th with 51 points.

“Some of the points didn’t come just from athletics, but I would tell you we accomplished quite a bit on the athletic side,” assistant athletic director John Berkman said. “I would tell you that out of the teams that we are lined up with from the UIL to compete against, we stand pretty well.”

At one time in the standings, Marble Falls was tied for 21st.

“I don’t know if we have been above 25 since I’ve been back in the last 10 years now,” Berkman said. “I will tell you that’s a huge accomplishment for us to get on that first page of (the standings). That’s an incredible jump for us.”

While he remains encouraged by the finish, Berkman also noted his sport, boys basketball, didn’t contribute to the standings. His Mustangs were in thick of the playoff hunt in the final two games of the season. But a 57-50 loss at Burnet Feb. 13 eliminated the Mustangs from contention.

“Boys basketball should have pulled their weight and we could have gotten more points,” he said. “Maybe we could have been tied for 20th or higher depending on what would have rolled out there. Those are some of the things that we look at.”

Still, Berkman isn’t the only head coach at Marble Falls who feels that way. Even those who may have guided teams to the postseason may believe their teams’ seasons shouldn’t have ended the way they did.

The chatter has been about contending for the Lone Star Cup for awhile now, and Berkman indicated those conversations will only get stronger.

“We had a lot of successes,” he said. “We expect to have just as many or more next year, honestly. Outside our walls, people may chuckle. But inside our walls, that’s not how we feel about it. We feel like we can move up more than what we did.”
