The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team is looking to build on a successful 2025-26 season.

The Lady Mustangs, who finished second in Districte 24-4A last year, are following much of the same blueprint from last summer when they participated in a summer league that includes Fischer Canyon Lake, Faith Academy of Marble Falls, Johnson City and other Hill Country programs.

Several familiar faces are suiting up for Marble Falls coupled with some talented newcomers in contests where the players call their own plays and own fouls.

The result is solid scoring with the players working a half-court offense going inside and out and pushing the pace for transition buckets when they have the opportunities.

“I think we’ve been pretty good,” senior forward Alexis Sprott said. “I feel like summer league has helped us build chemistry and helped us work on things. For me, for example, I like to shoot jump shots. Sometimes I shoot them off-balance, so it’s helping. I need to remember, ‘Hey, don’t jump when someone’s faking me on a shot, because they may or may not shoot it.’ And then I also need to remember to shuffle my feet on defense, and I also need to remember do not shoot jump shots off-balance in district. So I feel like summer league really helps everyone grow as a team and helps everyone grow as an individual.”

Sprott noted the Lady Mustangs are putting in the work. They’re attending Forge ’26, the athletic department’s summer strength and conditioning. After they finish those sessions, which include agility and speed training on the Mustang Stadium turf and weight lifting sessions, they head to a gym to work basketball skills.

The forward said she and her teammates are working much of the skills fans are seeing during league play, which happens on Tuesdays.

“I think one main thing that we’ve been doing really well is with (head coach Adley) Canales, we’ve been doing driving (to the basket) and kicks,” she said. “So if you drive in, they’ll replace behind you or you can pass out for a 3(-pointer) or something like that. But I think we have really good rotation, and I think our defense has been pretty good.”

Indeed. They put all the elements together in a lopsided victory against Canyon Lake where the Lady Mustang set up long-range shooters including junior Ally Moran. Posts Emma Martin and Molly Gray roamed the lane to score, rebound and protect.

Guards Reese Massey, Siyah MacIntosh and Collins Berkman led the defensive stands and pushed the tempo.

Berkman and Gray, who weren’t on the varsity last year, have been performing well, Sprott said.

“I’m glad we have some new players who came in to help us,” she said. “They’re really good assets to the team.”

Sprott said players are making it a point to treat each other well, no matter the drill or in a game.

“I guess you could say we have good chemistry,” she said. “Every time we practice together, one thing that’s really important is being very nice, uplifting and having good sportsmanship. We’re very uplifting, so whenever we do come in all together, it’s a lot easier to build that chemistry. If someone messes up, it’s OK because we’ll just fix it and we’ll learn, and we’ll move on from there.”

Overall, the Lady Mustangs are leaving the courts encouraged by the results.

“I feel like if you really want to be on varsity, you have to show that you want to be in,” Sprott said. “So I feel like our team’s been doing a pretty good job.”
