Marble Falls football invites to community to Midnight Madness

The Marble Falls High School football program is inviting the community to its third Midnight Madness practice Monday, Aug. 3, at Mustang Stadium.

That means that by 12:01 a.m. players will break into stations to do drill work with position coaches in the first practice of the 2026 season.

To help create the festive mood, head coach Keri Timmerman invited Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer to conduct their own drills at 11 p.m. Granite Shoals Police Chief John Ortis and Officer Benjamin Bales are cooking food and Chicken Express is donating tea.

Aguilar Construction and Woodmaster’s Unlimited has donated 200 T-shirts with the design by Printworks. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football also has “donated some other things.”

There is no admission and the food, tea and T-shirts are free.

“We’ve had some great donors,” Timmerman said. “We’re going to have a lot of kids out there at 11 o’clock, the youth football kids on the field, just doing some skills and drills. We’ll get the players out there at midnight, run through the tunnel with the kids, and then we’ll just get to work.”

The University Interscholastic League states that players can only wear socks, shoes, T-shirts, shorts and helmets for the first and second days then gradually add specific gear.

“So we’ll just work through a lot of skill and drills and the team,” the coach said. “Very, very little player-to-player (contact) just because it’s hard to mitigate contact with a helmet and no pads.”

“I think just the level of work and commitment our kids have shown this summer,” he said. “We just have a great group, a great group of kids that put in a lot of work and are really excited and confident. Years one and two were both great and just different experiences and a lot of climbing, a lot of learning, and I think this is starting to get to the culmination of what we felt like our kids could do, which is applying an offense and a defense and special teams to a group of kids that want to be good and are excited and care about each other and built that in the summer.”

The Mustangs will welcome Gatesville for a home scrimmage Thursday, Aug. 13, then travel to scrimmage at San Antonio Davenport Thursday, Aug. 20, with kickoff times at 7 p.m.

Marble Falls will open the 2026 season at home against Lockhart at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.

But first, the Mustangs will get themselves ready to play in their first official practice of 2026 and Timmerman, his coaches and players welcome fans to witness why they’re looking forward to this season

“I’m just excited to see our community,” he said. “It’ll be a fun time.”
