Faith Academy volleyball prepares for key home matches

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls volleyball team will play in two home District 4-3A matches of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools beginning with San Antonio Lutheran Tuesday, Sept. 8, and ending with Austin San Juan Diego Thursday, Sept. 10.
The junior varsity plays at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Flames are in prime position thanks to splitting matches last week. They defeated San Antonio Keystone 25-14, 25-19, 25-8 Sept. 1 and lost a road match to Temple Central Texas Christian 15-25, 13-25, 18-25 Sept. 3.
“It was it was a great season opener,” head coach Rebekah Silvers said of Keystone. “It always feels good to start that way, right? We were able to really just practice a lot of things that we had been working on. It felt like we had opportunities just to practice those things, because I would say the game was a little bit of a slower pace. And so we had fun with it. We did great.”
Junior outside hitter Ella Claiborne led with 16 kills followed by senior outside hitter Kerrington Silvers with 11.
“It was a great district opener,” the coach said. “It gave us some good skills, some good confidence. We just we really had fun with it.”
The match at CTC, which is expected to finish high in the standings, showed why.
“CTC has been a thorn in Faith’s side for awhile, and that’s that on the girl side,” Rebekah Silvers said. “I think they’re really just good in volleyball. Volleyball is where they shine.”
Before boarding the bus, the Lady Flames spent an hour going through their schemes, mechanics, fundamentals and other parts of the sport.
“We spent (Sept. 2) at school during lunch watching some film and working on a game plan,” the coach said. “The girls wanted to come about an hour before we left, and we really had an intentional practice on just working a few different adjustments to our rotations because we knew where they were strong – hitting in certain areas that we really wanted to focus on practicing.”
Though the match didn’t go her team’s way, Rebekah Silvers felt good about what she saw from her players.
“I feel like the girls played really, really well together,” she said. “They competed hard. They stayed together, they battled the whole time, and of course, we’re just up against a great team. All I can say is those matches just help us grow, and we told the girls, ‘This is a game where we’re wanting to watch for things that we know we need to work on or to change up.’ I was so proud of the way they played. We left that game, even though we lost in three, we held our own. At the end I was so proud of them. Their attitudes stayed up the entire time because we’ve struggled with that a little bit. But all in all, they put into play what we practiced intentionally. And I have to just say I’m so proud of them. I am so proud of them, and we’re going to see CTCS again.”
That rematch will be Sept. 29 at Faith’s Fire Pit.
