Marble Falls High School football fans will get their first glimpse of the 2025 Mustangs when they make their way to Bulldog Field for the start of Burnet’s annual 7-on-7 May League.

It’s each Monday at 5 p.m. beginning May 5 and ends May 19. Marble Falls also will participate in the Burnet State Qualifying 7-on-7 tournament Saturday, May 31.

Last year, the Mustangs competed in the league for the first time in several years. And so much was new: head coach, system and roles.

This year the team is in the second season under the direction of head coach Keri Timmerman.

Also returning is his son, Doak, a rising senior who split time at quarterback and fullback, and rising senior running back Joaquin Aguilar, who split his spring with soccer and track and field and other commitments.

Doak Timmerman had 44 rushes for 116 yards and five touchdowns and completed 16 of 22 passes for 183 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions during the 2024 fall season.

Aguilar had 103 carries for 589 yards and eight touchdowns and 12 catches for 175 yards and two scores last season.

After Doak Timmerman and Aguilar, the Mustangs will be looking for others to step up. On a roster that included 36 total players during the 2024 football season, 21 will graduate in a few weeks and 14 are rising seniors with only one rising junior.

Still, those 14 athletes played significant roles, especially on the defensive side led by Kaleb Bielfeldt, who split his time at tight end and defensive line, defensive back Gregory Lemon, and linebacker Brody Graham.

Other contributors are rising seniors Quavyon Alexander, Jesse Flores and Kaden Langbein.

As freshmen, the rising sophomores performed well. But some athletes are on the varsity baseball team and may not join 7 on 7 immediately. Depending on who returns to the program, some of these underclassmen may move up to the varsity in 2025.

The 2024 spring and fall were about learning coach Timmerman’s version of the spread offense, and 7 on 7 is all about the passing game. Before that, the emphasis was on the run game.

Keri Timmerman spent much of 7 on 7 talking to his son about what they were seeing as the younger Timmerman was helping his teammates learn the passing routes while establishing chemistry and learning tendencies.

This season, a stronger and faster group of Mustangs is taking the field after spending a year in the strength-and-conditioning offseason program. Keri Timmerman said he was pleased with the gains he saw, particularly in the weight room, throughout the offseason. He also said that all starting jobs are open.
