The Burnet High School volleyball program celebrated several milestones during its recent banquet following the conclusion of the 2025 season.

Among them are another 20-win season, a third-place finish in District 24-4A and another playoff berth. As a result, district coaches were bound to name several Lady Dawgs to the all-district list and give another a superlative award.

“These young women go above and beyond in everything they do,” head coach Crystal Shipley said. “They have raised the standard for Burnet volleyball in so many ways, and we are incredibly proud of each of them.”

The superlative award went to freshman Landry Schubert, who was named Blocker of the Year thanks to recording around 100 for the season, which is a single season record.

First team all-district members are senior libero Payton Smith, senior athlete Journey Denton and freshman setter and hitter Marisa Porter.

Second team all-district members are hitters Grace Cullison, a senior, and Brooklynn Dawes, a sophomore.

Honorable mention honorees include senior hitter Wrigley Mulhollan, junior hitter Peyton McCabe and freshman middle blocker Taylor Smith.

Other record breakers in 2025 include Denton who has more than 1,200 digs to be the program’s all-time leader, while Smith recorded her 137th career ace to become that category’s all-time leader. Dawes has 70 aces this season to set that single season record.

Shipley pointed out the Lady Dawgs’ commitment to bringing their best every day was evident for months.

“These girls have worked incredibly hard — throughout the summer and from the first whistle on Aug. 1 — both on and off the court,” Shipley said. “Their dedication, grit and heart have truly paid off.”

These Lady Dawgs also took care of business in the classroom with all 15 and both managers making the academic all-district team. And all six seniors earned academic all-state honors. They are Mulhollan, who is a member of the first team, and Allen, Sarah Cullison and sister Grace, Denton and Smith, who are all second team members.

Shipley was especially proud of their academic achievements.

“That speaks volumes about their commitment to excellence in the classroom as well as on the court,” she said. “Our team (grade point average) after the 1st six weeks was 100.1.”
