Burnet High School senior Charles Edwards signed to play baseball for Dallas College Mountain View. The program celebrated with a ceremony April 30.

“I think it’s every little kid’s dream as they go through the the process or most kids’ dreams as they go through the process of playing Little League or playing Pee Wee football or Little Dribblers basketball or whatever they do, the older they get, the goal is to try to continue to play on the next level,” Burnet head coach Russell Houston said. “Charles is a young man who has put a lot of work in to perfect his craft and to be able to go do that at the next level is super exciting for him.”

Edwards wore different Kelly green uniforms throughout his time in the athletic department.

He started at quarterback for the Bulldogs in 2025 and did his part to help the football team return to the playoffs for the second time under the direction of head coach Ben Speer.

And last season Burnet captured a bi-district title, their second in three years. Edwards’ commitment to doing all he could to ensure he and his teammates had success was obvious.

The same can be said of his commitment to the diamond where he consistently performed well as an infielder or anywhere his team needed him. The ability to go to different positions to help create depth is an invaluable characteristic and one programs deem important because it allows other athletes to stay in positions that may be more natural for them.

Houston indicated that Edwards’ willingness to put the team first was apparent throughout the season and pointed out that Edwards’ versatility is a big plus for the Mountain View coaches.

“He’s going in as an athlete who can go play multiple different positions, whether that be first base or catcher, pitcher,” he said. “We’ll see kind of where that where that leads in the next couple of years over there. But I’m super excited for him.”

One of the few pieces of advice the coach offered was having an awareness of the differences when moving up a level.

“I hope that he understands that this is now a job that he has to go do,” he said. “Playing college baseball – that’s your job when you get there. He should be able to figure that out pretty quickly and hopefully he’ll have success on the baseball field.”

But no matter what happens in baseball, Houston was more than confident that Edwards will continue to excel and will achieve plenty.

“Whether he has success on the baseball field or not, he’s going to be a successful young man in whatever he decides to go do just because he’s a hard worker and he’s unafraid to go put in the work,” he said.
