Three Highland Lakes athletes are still in pursuit of state championships that will be settled at state track and field meets Thursday and Friday, May 11-12, at Mike Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus, 707 Clyde Littlefield Drive in Austin. Burnet High School senior volleyball player Kayla Gillaspie fulfilled a lifelong goal May 6 when she signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Ranger College in Odessa. The Lady Dawg, who was a member of the District 19-4A co-championship and Class 4A Region III semifinalist team, celebrated the signing with family and friends. Llano High School girls coordinator and head basketball coach Todd Lange died May 4 after an eight-month battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
