Marble Falls football loses to Brownwood

The Marble Falls High School football team lost to Brownwood 56-7 Sept. 1.

The Mustangs (0-2) now focus on Killeen Chaparral at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.

The Lions (2-0) scored on all five of their first-half possessions to build a 35-0 lead.

Still, it took Brownwood a Marble Falls possession to figure out how to defend the slot-T offense. The Mustangs received the opening kickoff and assembled a 10-play drive where they converted a fourth down to keep the drive alive. The Lions finally got Marble Falls off schedule on second and 7 and third and 7 and forced a punt.

Meanwhile, the Mustang defense was a yard away from earning a safety, but the Lion got out of the end zone just before being tackled. Two plays later, the Mustangs thought they sacked Brownwood senior quarterback Ike Hall. But Hall got out of the grasp and found the receiver for a 94-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

That started four more possessions of Marble Falls punts and turnovers on downs to Brownwood’s touchdowns.

On the Lions’ second possession, Hall ran 65 yards to paydirt. On Brownwood’s third possession, senior running back Jaylan Brown scored on a five-yard run. The Lions scored on their fourth possession from a yard out. Junior receiver Weston Wolf caught a 34-yard touchdown from Hall with 3:40 remaining in the half.

The Mustangs scored in the final minutes of the half, going 75 yards in 12 plays highlighted by a two-yard run by senior fullback Dominic Fierro.

The Lions scored three more touchdowns: a 32-yard pass to sophomore Stone Ratliff from Hall, a Brown six-yard run, and a zone read run by junior quarterback Braeden Stacks.

Brownwood finished with 476 yards of total offense with 317 in the air and 159 on the ground. Hall completed 9 of 11 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 55 yards and a touchdown on three carries.

Sophomore Joaquin Aguilar led the Mustangs with 41 yards on 11 carries, followed by C.J. Alexander, who had four carries for 33 yards.
