Teams of the Marble Falls Youth Football and Cheer couldn’t have had a better start to the season.

All three teams won their season openers Aug. 27. The freshmen (Kindergartener through second grade) defeated Fredericksburg 20-13, the junior varsity (third- and fourth-graders) slipped by Liberty Hill 6-0, and the varsity (fifth- and sixth-graders) smashed New Braunfels 28-0.

Even more impressive is these youth teams are running Marble Falls High School football head coach Brian Herman’s slot-T offense.

“It’s the second year in a row,” MFYFC president Nicholas Wood said about running the slot-T offense. “The kids really had fun. The second year has made a difference. We got to where we’re comfortable pulling. The varsity is pulling multiple kids.”

Wood said watching the players execute the plays they’re learning in practices against opponents during games is a sight to behold.

“To be able to replicate it over and over — they understand it,” he said. “It seems they are really clicking. They’re picking it up.”

The freshman roster features many Kindergarteners and first-graders.

“We were slightly more physical,” Wood said.

Almost 200 youngsters are either playing football or are cheerleaders for the association.

All three teams are traveling to Wimberley Saturday, Sept. 10, to play at Texans Stadium, 199 Texan Blvd. The freshmen play at 10:30 a.m. with the junior varsity at noon and the varsity at 4:30 p.m. Adults and teenagers pay $2, while children 12 and younger get in free.
